Financial Assistance to rural labourers in serious and malignant diseases


The unorganized labour of the State, due to their weak economic condition cannot incur very much expenditure for treatment of diseases when serious diseases like heart disease, cancer, paralysis, and disease of kidney are suffered by the members of their family. In such circumstances, with a view to providing social security to these unorganized rural labour, the provision of reimbursement of expenditure of treatment of such serious disease and necessary operation as well as medicines has been made by the State Government under this scheme, obtaining from the doctor of the Government recognized hospital, the estimates of expenditure likely to be incurred in respect of serious disease suffered by the labourer concerned, filling necessary details in the prescribed application form, the Government Labour Officer of the District (Rural) has to be contacted.
After carrying out scrutinizes as per rules and after the sanction of the Labour and Employment Department of the State is obtained, it it provided to admit the sick labourers in the respective hospital for treatment. Total expenditure of this treatment is paid to the respective hospital by the State Government on behalf of the labourer. No amount is paid directly to the beneficiary. During Give years of 2002-2007, an amount of Rs.283 lakh is paid to dispensaries for 267 beneficiaries.

Moreover, 25 beds are reserved by the State Government in the famous T.B.Hospital of village Jithri of Bhavanagar District, in which it is provided to give free of charge treatment of T.B. to rural labourers of the State.
